Balls of Stainless Steel technology leverages a ball-bearing system, providing Gerber’s smoothest, most consistent deployment to date. Stainless steel balls reduce friction for seamless opening every time. The cage system is designed to keep the balls contained for stable performance over the long haul.
I SENT BACK A GREBER KNIVE FOR REPAIRS THAT I HAD FOR YEARS. GERBER DOES NOT MAKE THE KNIVE ANYMORE SO THEY GAVE ME CREDIT TOWARDS A NEW KNIFE, I CHOOSE THE US-ASSIST S30V BLADE KNIFE WHICH THEY SENT TO ME. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE KNIVE, THE ASSISTED OPEN WORKS WELL AND I LIKE THE SAFTIES ON THE KNIVE DUE TO MY GRANDCHILDERN. THE KNIVE CAN BE LOCKED SO YOUNG CHILDERN CANNOT OPEN IT BY ACCIDENT. THE ONLY THING THAT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT IS THE KNIFE CLIP GERBER PUT ON THIS KNIVE.
Want my money back. Hardest knife to open I have ever owned. Clip already loose- I've had this knife for less than a week. At least with the old Gator a couple drops of oil would loosen it up and you could flick it open.
Great knife but the clip is very poor. The clip came of after about two months. I thought it broke so I asked Gerber to send a new one, which they did. Same thing happened to the new clip, it came of after about a month.
This was my EDC, it’s a great knife, however after 2 years of use( really light use- mostly opening boxes) the blade has too much play. I sent it back to Gerber and I’m awaiting it’s return ; I will post on the customer service.
I wanted to like this knife, but the cheap wire clip is awful. It comes loose all the time and the screw is the smallest bit possible. I shouldn't have to buy a tool just to tighten a flimsy, cheap clip on a $100 knife. As someone else mentioned as well, the safety is extremely hard to unlock. I have never had this problem with other gerber knives, but I will never buy one so long as it has this paperclip style clip on it.
I have had this knife for a little over a year and it has never failed me. The only work I've ever had to to on it is tighten the pocket clip once or twice. Very smooth, consistent, and fast opening. Awesome knife.
Love the knife, Love the assist, HATE the clip. I have to tighten that screw every day, sometimes 2-3 times a day depending on what I'm doing. It's my EDC knife as of right now, But Im' already looking to replace it just do to the fact that i cant trust the Clip and like other reviewers mentioned the screw that holds it is between a T6 and a T7 torq bit. Very annoying!
I've had this knife for about six months now. It was a Christmas gift from my so. First impression was it was very nice and well built. Sharp as hell. assisted opening worked great and was fast. The only problem i could see right away was that the safety was so tight and stiff it would barley move over, so i don't use it. After six months its about time to throw it in the worn out knife bucket. the screw that holds on the wire clip is continually backing out. no biggie just tighten it back up, except Gerber uses the smallest TORX head screw they could find. So i had to order a driver from Grainger. The lockup on the blade after six months is junk. Rattles in the locked out position like a $10 Chinese knife. I do use this knife a lot, and to be fair have never had one last past six months. But that counts $25 knives. So into the bucket she goes. If you don't use your knife much it might last you a long time. But not a knife for use on a steady basis.
My kids bought this for Father’s Day last year and it has been on my side ever since. The ease at which I can open and close (and also lock and unlock) with one hand still makes me smile every time I do it. I use this knife daily at home and at work. This knife was on my list and my kids beat me to the purchase! Keep up the great work, Gerber!
The USA SV30 was s gift from my sons shortly after the model was released. It has been my daily carry ever since then. Access is quick & smooth, the SV30 blade has held an edge through daily use & only now needs a good sharpening, additionally it has held up mechanically throughout some pretty rough going over the last year+.
As a mechanical design engineer I was a bit skeptical about bearing life incorporated in the blade pivot but having lived through a lot of use in rainy weather & in a few cases total submersion, the opening & closing action is still smooth & never hesitates.
Always been a fan of GERBER since my daily carry in the Army was the MKII...and the USA has not let me down! - thank you for a great knife!
I just purchased the US Assist knife and I am not impressed. It is almost difficult to open. I have several much easier to open knives and I would not recommend this knife to anyone. I own several Gerber knives and for the price of this one I may not purchase another.
I had been waiting to spend a little extra on a decent knife but was really disappointed on the quality. Right out of the package there was a chip in the blade and a large dull section. I was expecting more from Gerber but I would say that overall rest of the knife felt great (from what I could tell). It felt good in the hand and the b.o.s.s bearing system felt really smooth.
I have been wanting to try this one for awhile now but was stuck on other brand knives and skeptical of the gimmicky aspects of the b.o.s.s. bearing system. I have to say I am very impressed with the ergonomics and classic drop point design.
Keep in mind this is only a first impression assessment. But I am surprised at how well made this thing feels. I am happy to say. I think Gerber is on the right track with there U.S. line. I would LOVE to see more quality U.S made Gerber blades. There is No blade play and the centering is close to perfect on mine. It fits my hands like a glove and feels like a tool. Keep it up Gerber, I am anxious to see what will be coming in the future.
Got the knife in July and loved it. The grip is great, it held its edge and I really liked how it sat in my pocket.
After 6 weeks however, the blade had so much play it rattled while using it. I returned it to the vendor and he was willing to replace it, but after waiting for 8 weeks, I decided to go for a different brand. Reluctantly...
Got a U.S. assist not long ago. I had never owned an assisted opening knife before so I wasn't sure what to expect in the way of performance. This knife opened so easily it was frightening! It was also incredibly sharp! I cut myself 3 or 4 times while practicing opening and closing the blade. I Love! this knife I carry it every day, either in my pocket or over a handle on my wheelchair. It's always close at hand for any task I want it to do.
The one thing I'd recommend is adding some kind of texture to the handle as it is it a bit slippery, otherwise I'd give this knife a 5 out of 5!!! Way to go Gerber!
Really nice knife. The blade steel is tough and deploys effortlessly with the B.O.S.S system. Just the right size for an EDC knife. The pocket clip rides a little high in tip down mode for my taste and I hope it will prove to be durable. Overall I really enjoy carrying the knife daily. Good job Gerber.
Great knife! The blade requires a little bit of force to open but it opens extremely fast. The blade is super durable and sharp! Has nice etchings in the blade that don't take away from the beauty of the knife as a whole.
This is a great knife till you get to the pocket clip
The clip is a flimsy piece of bent wire that catches on everything and bends and it is held on by a allen head screw that doesnt hold very well and its a size I have not been able to find in my standard allen wrench set
Need to make a replacement clip out of a one piece flat metal that the screw can be accessed through it.
I gave this 2 stars because the rest of the knife is great
The quality of the steel with the subtle but distinct etching, the positive control safety and smooth action all work together powerfully yet precisely. This heirloom will be loved and used for generations!
Overall, I really like the knife. However, as time goes on the constant carrying of the knife is wearing out the plastic clip. The retention is all but gone and I've only had the knife for almost 3 months. Normal activities - bending, squatting, sitting, standing up have caused the knife to fall out of my pants pocket due to no retention of the clip. Also, surprisingly, on two occasions the knife deployed itself after falling out and hitting the ground.
I like the knife, however I knew the pocket clip would be a problem. I don't mind the wire but the shape of the clip is just asking to snag on something, day 2 and as expected my clip is already bent. For the price point and the hype from marketing for this I feel like a little more thought could of gone into this. Especially if this is supposed to be such a great edc. I'd give it more stars if it came with a couple spare clips to change out.
Is anyone else having an issue with the thumbstuds? I love the overall design and basic function of the knife so far but the thumbstuds are loose with no way to tighten and the pocket clip twists ever so slightry making it feel loose even when it's not. Just wondering if I'm the only one with these issues because other than that I love the knife.
I'm very excited about this upcoming release. I have wanted a US made assisted model from Gerber ever since they released the Instant a couple of years ago. I also love that they're making this with a wire pocket clip and they sized it down just enough to make it my ideal EDC size. I'll definitely be getting one as soon as I can.
Also, according to the GerberGear Youtube channel, this will be available in both 420HC and S30V. Meaning I can carry the premium S30V version and recommend/gift the less expensive 420HC version to friends who are fond of my new knife.
S30V - Yes
Ball bearings - Yes
Fine Edge only - Finally Gerber Finally
Do not like the slight recurve in the blade. Makes it difficult to sharpen for the average user. I like spydercos so I don't mind the wire clip. Reinforced nylon handle is fine depending on the price point you set, so Keep an eye on your competition. Locking mechanism doesn't matter too much to me, I understand it's a folding knife not a chainsaw or a prybar. Now where you lose me is the assisted opening. You put a ball bearing pivot in the knife you DO NOT NEED spring assist in this knife. You won't get to feel the benefit of the ball bearings if the blade shoots out cause of a spring and not your thumb. Take away the spring assist. And this will be a perfect edc blade. PERFECT!!!
Do this knife in a titanium frame lock and the knife community will lose their minds!
I really hope you read this Gerber.
I have been loyal to Gerber since my first one I purchased when I was in the Amy 20+ years ago. I wont purchase anything else, I am glad to see they have finally come out with a great assisted open knife that will fit in the pocket nicely. Just wish I could get my hands on one before November.
